Elizabeth Grizzie Spratt was born in 1732, in Ireland. About 1751, in Anson county, North Carolina, Elizabeth married Captain William Polk, born circa 1733, in New Hanover Precinct, North Carolina. Elizabeth and William were residing in Anson county, North Carolina (established in 1750) at the time of the American Revolutionary War.

They became parents of children, including:

1. Hannah Polk, born 1755, in Anson county, North Carolina, died in 1823, in Maury county, Tennessee,[1] married Thomas Shelby, born 1750, in Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, a son of Reese Shelby and Mary Blair[2]
2. Colonel Thomas Polk, born February 28, 1757, in Anson county, North Carolina, died May 3, 1842, in New Salem, Union county, North Carolina,[3] In 1781, married Mary Shelby, a daughter of Reese Shelby and Mary Blair and sister to Thomas Shelby, who married his sister, Hannah. Mary Shelby died in 1840 and Thomas married Kiziah Melinda Tarlton, born 1825, a daughter of John P. "Jackie" Tarlton and his wife, Mary "Polly" Parrot. Thomas eight months after marrying his young bride.
3. William Wesley Polk, born circa 1760, in Anson county, North Carolina, died circa 1840, in Missouri, married Mary Ross.
4. John Polk, born 1762, in Anson county, North Carolina, died 1846, in Crooked Creek, Anson county, North Carolina
5. Ezekiel Polk, born 1765, in Anson county, North Carolina, died 1791
6. Nancy Polk, born 1771, in Anson county, North Carolina, died 1830, married Johnathan Shelby, born 1761, a son of Rees(e) Shelby and Mary Blair

Elizabeth (Spratt) Polk died October 2, 1799, in Charlotte, Mecklenburg county, North Carolina, and is buried in the Old Settlers Cemetery, in Charlotte. There is a photograph of her headstone on her Find A Grave memorial. [4]
