About Elizabeth "Betsy" Simmons
From the files of Pam Wilson's Arledge Family History Project:
(Most of this research was carried out by Joy Moore)
Elizabeth Arledge was the 3rd child of Allen and Eliza Arledge. She was born March 25, 1856, in Rapides Parish, LA, , was married on March 14, 1875, Book A-192, Newton County, TX to Silas Bud@ Simmons, born March, 1850. Bud and Elizabeth Simmons are on the 1900 census in Newton County, Texas, and they had their last child in 1897
Mildred Morgan said she had an aunt who was born in 1905 living in Merryville, LA, that she remembered Elizabeth dying when the aunt was about 5 years old, therefore we do not think they are buried in Trout Creek Cemetery as previously thought. Also, Elizabeth was called Betsy and Wheeler Arledge said that Aunt Betsy was living near their old home place in Merryville or in the Meadows community. . Mildred Morgan also stated that a member of her family had told her Bud had died about 1918. In talking to Robert Simmons, son of Robert Lee Simmons, the 8th child of Betsy and Bud, on March 16, 2000, Robert stated that his dad said that he was about 8 or 9 when his parents died. Bob Simmons was born in 1901, so that would have meant they died about 1910, probably his mom did die then as the aunt who remembered it and what Bob told Robert would be 2 sources that one had died in 1910. Robert Simmons also stated that he had understood they were buried in the community cemetery, i.e., Meadows Cemetery, Beauregard Parish, LA. , but graves are unmarked.
The children married into the families around them as did so many at that time. You can see the information on them as the children are documented.
