After her first husband, Alexander Smith, died, Elizabeth married her son's wife's father, Farquhard Campbell. Farquhard had fought as a Tory in the Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge where he was captured by Elizabeth's two brothers, Needham and William Whitfield.
