HISTORY OF THE TOWN OF STONINGTON, county of New London, Connecticut, from its first settlement in 1649 to 1900, by Richard Anson Wheeler, New London, CT, 1900, p. 601
Elizabeth Clarke was a daughter of Latham Clarke and Hannah (Wilbore) Clarke. She was born circa 1680 [1] @ Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
Marriage
She married John Stanton of Newport, Rhode Island.
Note: The date of their marriage is not certain; whereas Wheeler (1900) published the date as 9 Feb 1698, the attached image extracted from the Portsmouth, Rhode Island marriages publication (presumably transcribed from an original ledger) presents the date as Feb. 3, 1699/1700. In view of the prospect that their first child, Hannah Stanton, was born 4 Oct 1698, the former date appears more plausible.
Elizabeth (Clarke) & John Stanton had 12 children during the timespan through December 1721. Among these, the following died young, or unmarried with no known issue:
John Stanton, b. 7 Jul 1700; d. Feb 1741
Robert Stanton, b. 27 Dec 1701; died young
Mary Stanton, b. 12 Dec 1703; died young
Joseph Stanton, b. 12 Dec 1705; d. 8 Jul 1707
Daniel Stanton, b. 5 May 1710; d. 13 Jul 1717
Joseph Stanton, b. 6 Jun 1717; d. 7 Jun 1718
Jonathan Stanton, b. 5 May 1719; d. 6 Jun 1745
Death
Elizabeth (Clark) Stanton died at age 50 on 10 September 1730 in Newport, Rhode Island. [2]
