"On April 7, 1709, 'Know ye that we whose names are mentioned, viz:--Lydia Griffin, widow, Bradford, and her children: John, Ebenezer, Samuel, and Nathaniel Griffin,--Daniel Morrison, in behalf of his former wife, Hannah Griffin; and daughters Lydia, wife of William Knowlton; Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Staples, Susanna, wife of Christopher Bartlett, Jr., and Abigail Griffin,' for £105 sold to Stephen Barker, one hundred and seventy-eight acres, given the widow Griffin by her father Theophilus Shatswell. The land was on the north side of the Merrimac River in Haverhill."[1]
