"The next court session was held June 30, 1656. Robert Cooke was convicted of breach of court order to stay away from Mary Clay. He received 30 lashes. The court further states that if he does not comply with the new separation, they will sell him to Barbados as a slave. Mary escaped the lashes for this charge because her father Stephen Batson paid her fine. Stephen Greenum was presented for keeping disorders in his house at the neck of land & at Winter Harbor and for entertaining James Harmon, Robert Cooke, Mary Clay, John Davis, and Elizabeth Trott. Elizabeth was the wife of Simon Trott of Trott’s Island and she was Mary Clay’s sister."

Biography
The woman who is the subject of this profile, whose first name is not given in the source record, was a daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth Batson. Stephen was "of Saco," Maine, in 1637, and "of Wells," Maine, by 1639-41, but he soon removed to "Cape Porpus," Maine.[1][2]
His daughter married by about 1647 at Cape Porpoise, Maine, Simon Trott, as his first wife. There is no record of their marriage, but Stephen Batson, in his will dated March 8, 1673-4, specifies a son, three daughters, and three grandchildren, two of whom bear the surname "Trott," — "I give & bequeath vnto my grandchild John Trott Twenty shillings / I giue vnto Sarah Ashly Twenty shillings; I giue vnto Mary Trott Twenty shillings."[1][2][3][4][5] Children:
- John Trott, born by about 1647; married Anne _____
- Sarah Trott, born say 1649; married by 1673, _____ Ashley.
- Mary Trott, born say 1651.
Their mother must have died before Stephen, which is consistent with her death by 1656 and Stephen's in 1673/4.
Simon Trott had married for a second time by June 30, 1656, when his second wife Elizabeth is named in a York legal document.[1] Therefore, it is assumed that his first wife had died prior to that date.
