About Elizabeth Jane Usher
Grahamstown Journal 21 Aug 1863:
DIED near East London on Wednesday the 12th inst, Mrs. Elizabeth GUNN, the relict of the late Mr. J.J. GUNN, for many years Serjeant-Major C.M. Rifles and Barrack Serjeant of this City. Deceased was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. James USHER of Grahamstown. But though "childish some time" by her expressions she dwelt on her Saviour in all her wanderings. She was buried in the Churchyard in East London by the Rev Mr Wallace, and followed by her sons and the principal inhabitants of that Port to her last resting place.
