Source: "The Vincent Family", 3rd Edition, 1998, edited by Sheridan Vincent, printed by Vincent Family Record Publications, Rochester, NY. According to notes compiled by Lynn Airheart Brandvold:
"The Vincent Family" book places Allen as a son of Leonard Vincent (b. 1722) yet when Leonard's brother, Michael, died in 1801 his will listed the children of his deceased brother, Leonard, and Allen is not mentioned. Also, Allen's birthdate of 1772 doesn't fit with the known birthdates of the other children. The known birthdates of some of the children are between 1745 and 1756. Michael's will may have been written before Allen's birth or Allen may be the illegimate child of the Margaret Vincent and was raised as a son by Leonard and Elizabeth. He could also be the son of one of Leonard's sons. This information that Allen was the son of Leonard probably comes from "Beer's Commemorative and Biographical Record of Dutchess and Putnam County" published in 1897, which incorrectly states that Ann became the wife of Leonard Carey and her brother Leonard married Ann Carey. Also according to "The Vincent Family", a daughter of Benjamin and Polly Cary, Lydia, married Leonard Vincent, a brother of Ann Vincent. There is proof of this last marriage as Polly Cary is identified as the mother-in-law of Leonard Vincent and his wife is listed as Lydia Vincent in the 1850 and 1860 censuses. There is also proof that Ann Vincent married Nathaniel Cary, not Leonard Cary. "Old Gravestones of Putnam County, NY" by Barbara Buys gives the following information:
