Biography

Elizabeth Walker was the daughter of James and Bathsheba Brooks WALKER of Taunton, Massachusetts. Much of the information recorded in Tingley is also included in the longer narration written by Walker.[1][2]

Elizabeth Walker married twice. Her first marriage was on January 7, 1695, to Ephraim Emerson, the son of Robert Emerson and Ann Grant of Haverhill.[1][2][3][4] Their children included:

Theodia,[1] aka Theodotia "alias Ephraim" born December 24, 1696,[2][5][6] who married Elizabeth King. Walker states that Ephraim was a cooper in Rehoboth and the father of 7: Mary 1727, Ephraim 1730 (in the Continental Army in 1780)-, Joseph 1732, Benjamin 1735, Elizabeth 1739, Stephen 1739-40, Mehetable 1743.
Elizabeth,[1] who married Samuel Andrews.[2][6]
Ephraim Emerson died on April 8 1706 in Taunton at age 34.[1][2][7] His widow. Elizabeth, and her brother, james Walker, were named administrators of his estate on June 12, 1706.[8]

After April 1706, Elizabeth subsequently married Deacon Elisha May of Attleboro.[1][2][4] She was noted in church records in 1714. Walker notes that in that year Elizabeth was united with the church. Elisha was deacon of the church at Pamer's river. It is possible that their marriage was in that church about 1714. Elizabeth's will only named one child named May:

Benjamin,[1] who married Susanna Clark March 3, 1736.[2] Benjamin's date of birth is not known. If his parents did marry about 1714 then his birth could be as early as 1715. If Benjamin was over 20 when he married then his birth would have been before 1716.
Possibly others: Benjamin was the youngest child she mentioned in her will.
Any other children would have died childless before Elizabeth passed away during 1850. Not likely.
Elizabeth (Walker) (Emerson) May died in 1750. Her will was written February 12, 1749, and filed May 8, 1750 with a note "to be proved when ye ... can attend', so her death likely occurred before May 8. The inventory of her estate was taken August 7, 1750, and her estate was administered November 7, 1751. Her probate file notes her children Ephraim Emerson, and Benjamin May; and grandchildren Samuel Andrews, Elizabeth (Andrews) Humphrey, Ruth Hodges; together with grandchildren Elisha, Benjamin, Elizabeth and Susannah May.[6] She was buried in Tyler Point Cemetery, in Barrington.[9] The grandchildren listed first were the 3 children of Elizabeth (Emerson) Andrews followed by the 4 children of Benjamin May.

Research Notes

Elizabeth had two husbands, and not concurrently. Her first marriage is clearly recorded, and confirmed in her own will. This means she may not have been the mother of some of her second husband's children - The sources provided for her, in this profile don't state that she was. Many of the sources for her second husband simply leave his wife's name blank.

NOTE: If Elizabeth did have any other children during her second marriage, they were not mentioned in her will probated in 1850.Fuller-5853 05:13, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
