About Elizabeth Heckington Wingfield
Elizabeth Cecil was the sister of William Cecil, Lord Burghley, well know statesman of the Elizabethan era. She was the daughter of Richard Cecil, Master of the Wardrobe for Henry the VIII, and his wife Jane Heckington. Elizabeth Cecil married Robert Wingfield in 1555. The couple had seven children including Dorothy Wingfield who married Adam Claypoole. After Robert Wingfield's death in 1580, Elizabeth married Hugh Allington as her second husband. She died in 1611 and was buried at Tinwell Church Rutlandshire near Stamford. The wall monument to Elizabeth Cecil in Tinwell Church is shown in the adjacent photograph.
