Impressive Services Held for Respected Cedar Matron
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Bryner Wood, 77, wife of Geo. H. Wood, one of the oldest native residents of Cedar City. Mrs. Wood died Saturday morning from kidney trouble following a severe attack of pneumonia.
The services were attended by a large crowd of friends and relatives not only from Cedar City but from many surrounding communities, particularly St. George and New Harmony. Her four brothers, John U., James, Enoch, and Alma Bryner, and three sisters, Mrs. Rose Anderson, Mrs. Annie McMullin, and Mrs. Edith Sheppick of Price, Helper and South Jordan, were also here for the services.
Mrs. Wood was active in church work, and for more than fifty years she had been a visiting teacher in the ward Relief Society. She was a charter member and an active organizer of the Iron County chapter of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and had done much genealogical and temple work for the church.
She was born in Ogden on May 30, 1860, a daughter of Ulrich and Marie Bryner, who came to Dixie when the area was first settled. When she as 1 year old the family settled in St. George. She moved with her mother to New Harmony in 1865, where she resided until her marriage on May 15, 1878, to George H. Wood of Cedar City.
Besides her husband, she is survived by seven sons and five daughters, George A. Wood, Franklin B. Wood, Roy, William H., Preston and Rulon Wood, Mrs. May Armstrong, Mrs. Verena Stephens, Mrs. Pauline Hunter and Miss Blanch Wood, all of Cedar City; Mrs. Dola Jones, Enterprise, and Karl Wood, Circleville; eight brothers and sisters, John U. Bryner, Price; James, Enoch, and Alma Bryner, Helper; Mrs. Annie McMullin, Mrs. Edith Sheppick, South Jordan; Mrs. Rose Anderson and Mrs. Lillie Frendson, Price; 56 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The funeral services were conducted by Bishop's Counselor, Wm. B. Adams, with the following program presented:
Opening song, "Oh My Father," by Double mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Annette Bettenson, Miss Alice Williams, Mrs. Violet Urie, Mrs. Bell Jones, E. M. Corry and William, Kenneth and Chauncey MacFarlen, and E. M. Corry, accompanied by Miss Ivy Webster.
