Betsy graduated from Glendale High School in 1968. While attending numerous colleges she worked as a waitress and bartender. Later she was a sales representative for a cooking oil company. She also spent time in London, England and lived in Napa and Sonoma, California. After her marriage she settled in Chester, California, near Mount Lassen National Park where her husband, Bob, was a law enforcement officer with the Forest Service. She was the resident editor for the Chester Progressive for eight years and currently works at the Chester Post Office. She was a contemporary quilter, taught quilting and related fiber arts, and was directly involved with the creation of the Chester PieceMakers Quilt Guild and its annual July 4th Show.

RESEARCH NOTES: Following a four year courageous and valiant battle, Elizabeth "Betsy" W. Nelson succumbed to the effects of cancer Sunday morning, Jan. 16, 2005, at Seneca District Hospital located in Chester. Betsy was born Aug. 24, 1950, in Pasadena, to Walter and Barbara Worth. She was raised and educated in Glendale, and graduated from Glendale High School as a member of the class of 1968. She went on to attend college in both California and Oregon. Betsy married the love of her life, Bob Nelson, at a ceremony in her parents' backyard in Glendale on Oct. 26, 1980. They relocated shortly thereafter to Chester, where Betsy went to work as a local reporter for the Chester Progressive newspaper. She left the paper after six years of dedicated service for employment with the U.S. Postal Service. Betsy served as the postmaster for the Mineral post office for four years until health complications required her to leave the post. Betsy was an extremely talented artisan who was an avid and accomplished quilter. She had a passion for the art that she loved to share. Betsy was a charter member of the Almanor Quilt Guild, serving in numerous positions with the organization to include president and most recently treasurer. She will be remembered by many for her talent at teaching the art. She had just recently taken up painting and loved to work in her garden. Betsy will most notably be remembered for her dedication to and love she shared with her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Bob of Chester; son, Patrick of Ketchikan, Alaska; mother, Barbara Worth of Santa Clarita; brothers Donald Worth of Valencia, and Steven Worth of North Hollywood, along with the joys of her later life, her grandchildren Daunte Stephen Nelson of Chico and Angelina French of New Mexico. Betsy is preceded in death by her father Walter. A celebration of Betsy's life will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at the Lake Almanor Community Church located on Highway A13 in Hamilton Branch.
