About Elizabeth van Horne
Cornelius Van Horne held the Commission of Captain from King George II of England, an honor of which was extremely proud and he was always known as "Captain Cornelius" ... it was even inscribed on his gravestone.
His second wife, Elizabeth Lawrence was the daughter of James Lawrence (1660-1730) and Mehetable Alburtis (the Captain's step-sister). James Lawrence left a Last Will proven in 1730 [6] in which he mentions his wife "Mehitable and his children Jacob, John, James, Hannah, Mary Rebecca, Debra; and the three children of his daughter Elizabeth, deceased, namely Mathias, Catharine and Elizabeth VanHorne".
