About Elizabeth Jones Flemming

"Ms. Elizabeth Jones Fleming 87, entered peacefully into eternal rest on June 27, 2017 in her home surrounded by family. She was born to the late William and Laura (Jones) Flemming on April 26, 1930 in Cheraw, South Carolina. She was a longtime resident of Waterbury, CT.

Grandma Liz as she was affectionately known, played a significant role in the lives of all of her grandchildren. Most of her life was spent cooking and caring for others but her greatest accomplishment was her role as mother and grandmother to her large extended family. She found joy in cooking and could prepare any dish from memory. Grandma Liz was best known for her hot rolls and delicious cakes. She enjoyed spending time watching her "soaps" and caring for her plants. She was the rock of her family and will be dearly missed.

Grandma Liz had a feisty personality but the real beauty was her quiet strength. Her maternal love extended beyond family and into the entire community. She believed everyone had value no matter who they were or what their background was and showed unconditional love to all. Her home was always open to anyone in need and you were sure to receive a hot meal and sound advice. For this reason she was known not only as Grandma Liz to her own grandchildren but was Grandma to everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her children Doris Flemming- Jameson, Denora Jean Flemming, Wilson Flemming Sr., Laura Watson; sisters Yvonne Townsend, Hattie Alford, Teresa Jones and a special niece Theresa James Fox. She also leaves to cherish her memory 15 grandchildren Kishona Brown, Tarsha Johnson, Adrian Flemming, Mayo and Donshawn Jones, Donald Flemming Jr., Jahana Hayes, Aaron Flemming, Melkia Woodbury, Shakia and Wilson Flemming Jr., Justin Scott, Da-Von Munn, Malika Watson and Shawnya Watson; 6 foster grand children Joshua, Leslie, Kaitlyn, Kacie, Rueben, and Mia Grace; 57 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, friends and countless others who she raised and considered her own. She was predeceased by one son; Donald Flemming Sr., three sisters; Annette Flemming James, Ruth Hill, Minnie Watson, two brothers; Wilson Flemming and William "Bill" Jones."
