About Elkanah Watson
Occupation: blacksmith Thacher in his History of Plymouth (pg 173) states that he was supposed to be the richest man in the county at the time of his death.
Mayflower Descendant, 5:55 and 17:71, also Pilgrim Notes and Queries 5:109: Drowned. His widow administered his estate. Three of their children, John, Phebe, and Mercy, were mentioned by name in the probate proceedings.

It is related that in a storm on the 8th Feb, 1689-90, Edward Doty, with his son John and Elkanah Watson, another resident of Plymouth were drowned in Plymouth harbor or perhaps more properly by the wreck of the vessel in attempting to enter the harbor.

ELKANAH, 7th child of George Phebe (Hicks) Watson, was born in Plymouth 25 February 1656; perhaps m. Mercy Hedge, daughter of WILLIAM HEDGE. According to Savage, he was drowned in company with the second Edward Doty and his son John, by shipwreck. on the Gurnet's nose, in a passage from his Boston home, 8 Feb. 1690.
