Ella Lindsey Canfield

Some sources state name was Eleanor. Aged 47y; poisoning. Born in Lexington, KY. Died in Bristol, RI.

Ella was the daughter of Levi Todd, Mary Todd Lincoln's older brother. Married John C. Canfield on Feb. 15, 1865, in Springfield, Ill. They had two children, ELLA S. and MAI L. Mr. Canfield was a merchant in Springfield.

Mrs. Edward D. Keys received the sad intelligence by wire yesterday that her sister, Mrs. Ella Todd Canfield had died in Bristol, R. I. Mrs. Canfield was 47 years of age and was born in Lexington, Ky. She was the widow of the late John Canfield, years ago a prominent merchant in this city. Mrs. Canfield had been living in the east about fourteen years. The only two immediate members of her family who survive her are Mrs. Ed D. Keys of this city and Miss Susie Todd of Lexington, Ky.

Mrs. Canfield was formerly Miss Ella Todd, of this city. She was married to John Canfield, who was for years a dry goods merchant on the west side of the square here. He and their two daughters are dead, and lie buried in Oak Ridge cemetery. Mrs. Canfield was for some time a clerk in one of the government offices at Washington, D. C.

Mrs. Canfield was well-known to a large circle of acquaintances here as a most excellent woman. Mrs. Canfield has relatives buried here and the remains will be brought to Springfield for interment.
