The Wentworth genealogy By John Wentworth

William18 Wentworth was twice married : first, to Ellen, daughter of John Gilby, of Ravendale, and widow of John Ferrars. The two of the name, mentioned in the inquisition post mortem, were her brothers. West Ravendale, or Ravendale, as it is usually called, is only three or four miles from Waltham. By her lie had the three sons already named. The date of her death has not been ascertained ; but he had, when he died, another wife, named Anne, with whom, from various evidences, he does not appear to have been on the best of terms.

"John Gilby" is listed in the Pedigree of "Gilby, No. 1." that appears in the book "The Visitation of the County of Lincoln, 1592" (via FHL PDF: https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/1877963; page 31), which states that "John Gilby of West Randall (Ravendale) in com. Linc. = [married] Agnes, da. of Robert Brugh of Sallaby al's Saltfleatby, co. Linc.", and that they had the following children: Helen (who first married William Fernars and then William Wentworth); Alice (who married Edw. Edmonson); George (who married Elizabeth Hansard); Thomas (who married Elizabeth Castelforth); Edward; William; and Mathew. (Research Note: Helen (or Ellen) Gilby is listed in the IGI, which states that she was born in 1540 in Ravendale, Lincolnshire, and died in 1579 in Lincoln, Lincolnshire.)
