"Ellice ( Ricard ) Daniels was my third great grandmother on my paternal side. She was born in Honeyoe, Ontario Co. New York in 1817, the daughter of Moses Ricard and Rhoda Risdon. Rhoda was the tenth child of Onesimus and Sarah ( Wheeler) Risdon. Onesimus was a soldier in the Revolutionary war. He served in the militia of the State of Vermont. Ellice married Hiram Daniel in Jefferson County, Ohio on Feb. 16, 1836. This was a couple whose ancestors had been pioneers for several generations, and they carried on as such. Ellice bore eleven children in four different states ending in Waterville, Mn. She traveled pregnant over the roads of the time and probably in the winter when they moved from Iowa in the winter of 1855/56. These moves were made in such areas as Maine and Minnesota and Wisconsin so larger rivers might be crossed on ice. Her last child was born after Hiram had gone to fight in the Civil War. These women of the western frontiers were left to fend for themselves in a barely subdued wilderness while their men were away. The final move for them was from Todd Co. MN. late in the 1870s to Winfield Ks where Hiram died. They still had two unmarried daughtes at the time of the move. After Hiram's death Ellice moved back to Waterville, Mn where she died in 1886 and is buried in Uran Cemetery. (Written by Sandra Lee)

Moses might go back to Giles Rickard, an English immigrant.

An Elias Rickard is on page 339 in Hamilton County, an early settler in the town of Morehouse. There is a Ricard, no first name, in Saratoga County, town of Hadley in French's Historical Gazetter of New York surname index lists 1.
