"To South Africa in 1879 went religious zealot Elling Eriksen Svingeset b. 1823 and his oldest son Erik Ellingsen with Marte Sjursdtr. Øverberg. Erik was born out of wedlock 1854.
Elling left the Nordfjord in 1860 and married that year Brith Thoresdtr. Erdal nee Hovde, of the Eide farm on Hjørundfjord. Elling's mother was Johanne Endresdtr. Ytre Eide b. 1789, probably from farm #1 in Stryn, Nordfjord.
Elling became a baptist some time between May 1874 when his son Edvard was buried in the Lutheran way, and September 1875 when another Adolf Edvard was borne, but not christened."
