About Elliott Hersey

Born in Winchester, Mass., on Sept. 11, 1932, to Walden B. Hersey and Lois E. Hersey. He was raised alongside three sisters, Althea, Alison and Stephanie. Elliott graduated from Winchester High School, Kimble Union Academy, completing his education by graduating from Dartmouth College in 1955. That same year, he married Linda B. Hersey and proceeded to buy into his family's Hereford farm, and turned it into a successful dairy farm from 1957 to 1995.

After his wife's passing in 1992, he then married Alison Whittemore and moved to Harrison, Maine. In 2004, Elliott and Alison returned to his New Hampshire roots after being diagnosed with IBM, a muscle disease, in order to be closer to his family.

Throughout his life, Elliott was involved in many organizations. He was the president of the Patten Lumberman's Museum, which was founded by his great uncle, Dr. L. Rogers. While residing in New Boston, he was the representative from New Hampshire to the formation the national dairy association, DHIA, part of the New Boston finance committee, treasurer of the New Boston School District and treasurer of the Hillsborough County DHIA for 35 years. Elliott also served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy for two years. He earned the honor of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Elliott enjoyed woodworking, model trains, crossword puzzles, and exploring his family history through genealogy.

Elliott always joked that he was constantly surrounded by women. He had three sisters, five daughters, and a herd of dairy cows. Elliott's favorite poem was "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost.
