Elmare Wolfaardt (1947 - 2004)
Brief overview:
Elmare (57), a farmer's wife, was severely beaten before she was murdered on Farm Dorsfontein, Murraysburg, Eastern Cape, on 31st January 2004. At least three objects, including a piece of iron pipe, were used to kill. She sustained serious injuries to the head, face and neck.
Her husband, Sakkie (Izak Petrus), went to look for her and he was attacked with a shovel near the chicken coop. He suffered a fractured skull with severe head injuries and a broken arm.
David Makwena (21), who worked at the farm, was arrested the next morning on a neighbouring farm, about 4 km from Dorsfontein. He appeared in court on 29th March 2004, and on trial for murder and attempted murder, and burglary with intent to steal.
