About Elmer Dale Ellsworth

Elmer Dale Ellsworth - It is with feelings of deepest sorrow that we chronicle the death of Elmer Ellsworth. The whole community is wrapped in gloom at his leaving us. He was one of the most popular and liked young men in our city; of clean habits and character, industrious and frugal; a loving husband and tender father.

Elmer Dale Ellsworth was born March 3, 1892 in Paxton, Keith Co., Nebraska, later coming with his parents to Wisconsin and settling near Livingston. When Elmer was eleven years of age he came with his parents to this city and here with the exception of one year spent in California, he has lived ever since. He graduated from the local High school, class of 1912 and spent one year at the U of W.
In 1914, Mr. Ellsworth established himself in the ice business and this proved a very successful business venture. On June 30, 1915, Elmer was happily married to Leila M., eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Allen. The union was blessed with one son, Allen, now fifteen months of age, who with the wife and mother are left to each other to bear this heavy loss. May a kindly providence be light unto them in this hour of gloom. Several weeks ago, Elmer came down with the influenza but he recovered from this and was as usual when suddenly complications set in and the best medical skill and most efficient nursing was called into service but all to no avail, the spirit quit it's earthly house and winged its way to realms celestial about mid day on Monday, January 6, 1919.Besides his wife and little son, he leaves his parents, Mr and Mrs.Reuben Ellsworth, of Beloit, five sisters and five brothers (Elmer being the eldest), Mrs. Lida Bainbridge, Beloit; Mrs. Mae Thrasher, Mineral Point; Mrs. Edith Brewer, Beloit; Mrs. Joyce Slack, N. Dakota; Reuben and Ralph, twin brothers; the former of this city and the latter in Service; Frank of Beloit; John in Service; Doris and Donald of Beloit; also multitude of friends who will miss his cheering voice and genial nature greatly.Funeral services were held from his late home today (Wednesday) afternoon, Rev. A.H. Schoenfeld of the First Congregational Church officiating. The rites at the grave were given by the Masonic fraternity. Internment was made in Graceland.
