2008 Oct 06 - Cadillac - Elmer James Brannam was born Tuesday 06 Dec 1927 to Henry Alexander & Rosa (Lullam) Brannam at home in McBain. He married Dorothy Ruth Yager Friday 09 Feb 1945 at the Courthouse in Cadillac. They made their home in Cadillac, Mt Morris and then back to Cadillac in the late 1950s, to their farm on 34 Rd. He was a true farmer's son and a child of the Great Depression. He was a smart and creative man who succeeded owning his own business for many years in the greater Cadillac area. Elmer was a talented tinkerer and mechanic, farmer and builder. He was, simply, a real jack of all trades. Most importantly, he was a good husband to Dorothy, a loving father to Elmer, Marge, Kay, Jim, Jack and Marsha. He loved each and every one of his 16 grandchildren and beautiful great-grandchildren, and great-great- grandchildren. He enjoyed visits from everyone, especially his weekly get-together with his sister, Virginia and sister-in-law, Dolores. He always had a heart for children and animals, especially for his special canine companion, Katie the dog, who misses him dearly. He was full of wonderful tales of a life well lived.

Elmer James Brannam of Cadillac died Monday 06 Oct 2008 at the age of 80 y 10 m 0 d at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. Survirrors included 4 children, Marge & Glen Schleede of Ypsilanti, Kay & Tex Stanfill of Kalamazoo, Jack & Barb Brannam of Cadillac and Marsha & Rick Soulliere of Windsor, Canada; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; 2 sons, Elmer James Brannam Jr and James Eugene Brannam; parents, Henry & Rosa; 1 brother, Don & Nancy Brannam.

Graveside services were 1 pm Saturday 11 Oct 2008 at Greenwood Cemetery in McBain.

Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in McBain.

The family was wanted everyone who knew Elmer to join them immediately after the service Saturday 11 Oct 2008 at Grape Arbor Restaurant in McBain. After 4 pm family members were to meet at Elmer's home at 6970 E 34 Rd in Cadillac, for some good reminiscing, stories and smiles in true Brannam fashion.
