About Elsie Florence Grant
Elsie was kept at home when she was younger instead of going into service like her sisters .. she was made to look after the house as her mother was not well. When Elsie married she lived in lodges for a short time in the area where she was born , but went to live in Wales with her husband's family about 5 months after her first child Elizabeth was born ( 1934 ) . She lived there until 1939 when the WW2 started she went back to live in Windsor then. She lived at 21 Clarance Road, Windsor and her husband Harry went off to war and after the war he never came back to live with the family but went off with another woman. Elsie worked to support her children, she cleaned other people's houses and took in sewing . When the children were older she cleaned the nursery after school up near the castle. Early mornings she worked in a bakery cooking and cleaning. After the children left school she worked in the jam factory then went on to do the catering at the race courses which she loved and did till she retired.
