About Elva May Gorman
The birth of Elva and twin brother Maurice was registered at Trafalgar, but they were said to be born somewhere near Noojee in a timber milling camp, however later evidence shows the family on the Gorman farm at Allambee/Childers when the twins were born..
The picture sort of resembles the place described to me as the one where Lizzie and Walter were living when the twins were born. Unfortunately that story turns out to be NQR. When Maurice and Elva were born in 1917, Walter and Lizzie were living on the farm at Childers/East Alambee with the rest of the Gorman family. The electoral roll for that year makes it very definite that Walter was farming the family property, and presumably Lizzie was helping her mother-in-law in the home. It means that the story about Lizzie being starving and unable to breast feed the twins is also apocryphal. Walter wrote to their cousin, Cissie Morgan, in Leicester, England about the twins birth.
West Gippsland Gazette 3 June 1930 SIX TWINS SING! People generally have to listen when twins are about, and when three sets of them are together, the people sit up. It happened at Childers the other night, when the people not only sat up, but applauded right royally. For the three sets of twins sang in harmony at the children's anniversary of the Childers Methodist church. They were Morris and Elva Gorman, Maud and Kitty Farley, Jim and Will Wells.
1939 electoral roll, Bruthen: Elva is living with her parents at Metung on the Gippsland Lakes where Walter and Lizzie had a house. Walter is described as a labourer and the women as home duties. Of the sons, only Eric a schoolboy, was at home, since Maurice and Bert were both in the army .
