About Elvira Stothart

Elvie met her husband Will Stothart while visiting her uncle, Louis M Howard in Coushatta.

She was a piano and dance teacher. Upon arriving in Coushatta , she was considered a belle and wore the biggest bustles in town. She taught at Coushatta Academy in 1887.

Elvie was an Episcopalian , but became a Methodist because there was no Episcopal church in Coushatta. She had beautiful silver and gold jewlery that was was passed down to her daughter Hazel, but lost when Hazel's house burned.

She died of swamp fever , a severe form of malaria.
