Grand Island Daily Independent Tuesday 20 Feb 1928 Pneumonia Takes Mrs. J. Balcom
Mrs. James Balcom, 77, Grand Island resident for the past forty-five years, died at her home, 419 East Eleventh street, at 12:55 a.m. Monday, of pneumonia, after an illness of six days. She was born in Canada October 23, 1850. On September 1, 1870, she was united in marriage with James Balcom, at Cambridge, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Balcom having celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1920. since 1883 she made her home in Grand Island.
Surviving are her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Minnie Hardy, Mrs. Flora Williams, and Mrs. Ethel Bosler, , all of Grand Island, as also eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren, three sisters, and one brother. the latter, David Bowen, resides here. Three children have preceded her in death.
Mrs. Balcom united with the Baptist church while residing in Illinois and has ever been a faithful and consistent member of that church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Trinity M. E. church, Rev. A. C. Hull, pastor of the Baptist church, officiating. A brief service will be held at the home at 1:30 o'clock. Burial will be in the Grand Island cemetery.
Grand Island Daily Independent Friday 24 Feb 1928. The funeral of Mrs. James Balcom was held from the Trinity Methodist church at two o'clock Thursday afternoon, many relatives and friends of the family being present. Rev. A. C. Hull, pastor of the Baptist church, conducted the services. Serving as pallbearers were F. W. Mader, J. B. Smith, Nathan Beman, Albert Sagesser, Gus Peterson, and Gus Neumann.
Burial was in the Grand Island cemetery.
