Brief overview:

Emejean (), and her partner Dhalip Mohabir () were tortured and killed with garden instruments on or around 30/06/2013 in Volksrust, MPL

On July 4, police officers discovered the bodies of Emejean and Dhalip in two separate rooms of their home. It is believed they had been dead for several days.

Emejean was raped and both of them were robbed of a velvet maroon coloured bag decorated with simulated pearls and a Nissan Bakkie key. Both of them died on the scene as a result of the injuries sustained.

  • Thobani Xolani Fakude (28), was sentenced for three counts of murder, three of rape, three of housebreaking, three of robbery, as well as a count of attempted murder which occurred in Volksrust.
  • Fakude was sentenced yesterday by the Circuit of the High Court seating in Ermelo after he pleaded guilty on 12 August 2015. The High Court was informed that in November 2012, Fakude broke into a house of an elderly woman, then raped after which he fatally assaulted her.
  • In another incident, he accosted a couple where he raped the woman and fatally stabbed both of the man and woman with a garden fork.
  • The last victim, who survived his ordeal, was raped, strangled and left for dead by the prisoner but he survived.

In all these incidents, the accused robbed the victims of their belongings, including jewelry.
