Emeline was about one year old when her parents and grandparents accepted the Gospel when three Mormon missionaries visited their home in Canada. The family journeyed by ox teams to meet with the Saints in DeWitt, Missouri, arriving there in September, 1838, it being a time when the Saints were being persecuted severely, and their lives were in danger constantly. She crossed the plains to the Salt Lake valley in 1849, and they settled in the West Jordan area, near the Jordan River.

When she married William Andrew Bills they spent most of their lives in South Jordan and Riverton, Utah, living on a farm.

Emeline was a typical pioneer mother - reared 12 children, most of whom lived on farms in the area of Riverton. She was a mid-wife in the community, and a mother to everyone needing aid.

She was always active in the Church, particularly in the Relief Society organization. She was loved by everyone for her wonderful dispostion and service.
