Emerine Elizabeth Gardner Bird— Pioneer Cache Valley Matron Dies At Mendon — Logan, December 21, Mrs. Emerine Bird, 70, wife of Mormon Bird of Mendon, died at her home Friday after a long illness. Mrs. Bird was born in Mill Creek November 5, 1855 but had resided in Cache Valley 50 years. Mrs. Bird's father, John Gardner, in 1856 was frozen to death while attempting to reach the Cache Valley from Brigham City, where pioneers were spending their winter in the valley. Her mother, Elizabeth B. Hill Gardner, later married Bishop W. Maughan of Wellsville. Mrs. Bird leaves nine children; M. D.; Clarence; Earl; Cyril; Afton and Erma Bird; and Mrs. Lucile Hardman, Mendon; Mrs. O. W. Cooley, Logan. Funeral services will be held Tuesday December 22, at 1:00 p.m. in the Mendon Chapel. Emerine Elizabeth Gardner Bird— Last Respects Paid To Matron Of Mendon — Logan, December 24, Funeral services were held in the Mendon ward chapel on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. for Mrs. Emerine Bird, wife of Mormon Bird. Bishop H. C. Sorensen was in charge of the services. Patriarch O. M. Wilson offered the opening prayer and the following musical numbers were rendered: Two numbers by the choir, instrumental music by C. C. Sweeten and Alice Sorensen; vocal solo, Mrs. Cecil Cooley, Logan; vocal duet, Mattie Daley and Vernon Maughan; vocal solo, J. O. Hughes. The speakers were Jens Jensen, William H. Maughan, D. M. Bickmore of Paradise and Bishop Sorensen. Benediction was offered by Bishop C N. Maughan of Wellsville. [Newspaper Not Listed]
