About Emerson Pugmire
Emerson Pugmire, 65, prominent Gooding county civic leader and Hagerman mayor was killed instantly in a one-car accident about 10 pm Monday four and nine- tenths miles south of Bliss on Hwy 30. According the Sheriff Verne Royse, Mr. Pugmire's 1959 Cadillac struck and killed two horses owned by Mr. and Mrs. Bud Smith, Bliss.
Mr. Pugmire who was well-known in the Magic Valley for his work as director of the South Central Idaho district Health Unit and Highway 30 Association as well as his long service as Gooding county commissioner, died of a broken neck, the sheriff said. He was enroute home from a meeting of the Hospital board in Gooding.... the car struck the guardrail after hitting the horses. One of the horses was thrown over the hood of the car smashing the windshield.
Mr. Pugmire was born in St. Charles, Idaho Dec 4, 1898 and grew up in the Bear Lake Country. He lived in Montpelier as a young man and did construction work in Logan and Collingston, Utah. He worked on construction of the American Falls Power Plant and was transferred to Hagerman where he was operator of the Lower Salmon Falls plant. In 1944, he and a son, Marion Pugmire purchased the Cady Auto Company.
