About Emil G Hoernlein

Emil G Hornlein spelled his name without the "e" that Charles did. Emil and Charles I believe came together from Prussia Now Eastern Germany and Poland. Based on newspaper articles I believe he arrived in America in 1855. He and Charles (Carl) moved to Milwaukee Wisconsin and started their families there.

RENO (Nevada)- April 4, 1906- Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Hornlein, formerly of Sacramento, but now making thir home with their children in Reno, last evening celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. at the home of their daughter, Mrs. A.M. Britt, wife of a wealthy Reno brewer. Of the twenty children that were born to this sturdy couple, but nine survive, all of whom were present at the jubilee.

In the presence of their many descendents and a large concourse of friends, Mr.and Mrs.Hornlein stood beneath a bower and a wedding ceremony simular to that of fifty years ago was gone through. Rector Samuel Unsworth,Trinity Church officated.

The following children were present: Max E. Hornlein, Hugh A. Hornlein, Otto F. Hornlein, Albert Hornlein, Mrs. Boehms and W.W. Hornlein, all of San Francisco; Mrs. James Mayberry of Tonopah; Mrs A.M. Britt and Mrs. R.A. Rheude of Reno.

Mr. and Mrs Hornlein were married in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on April 3, 1856, a year after their arrival in this country. Mr. Hornlein, having come from Prussia, while his bride was a Saxon girl, Miss Amelia Price, They traveled on the same ship to the New World and it was from this chance acquaintance that the pathes to their lives blended together. Until 1869 they lived in Milwaukee, but when the first overland train was run to the Coast, they were passengers, stopping first in Nevada, and a few years later in Sacramento, where they lived for many years, and where several of their children still have large interests. Mr. Hornlein in 71 years of age and his wife 70, both being in fine health.
