About Emilia Zelmer
Notes found on Ancestry.com: On April 18th, 1913 after selling their farm, Emilia used the downpayment to purchase tickets for herself and four of her children (Lydia, Edward, Hedwig, and Paul) to America. They left Germany and traveled via Antwerp, Belgium to Southport, England, and then by train to Glasgow, Scotland. There they boarded a ship which took the arctic circle to Canada. From Canada they traveled by train to Detroit. Again by train to Benton Harbor, Michigan, and then by Inter-Urban Street Car to Berrien Springs, Michigan, arriving May 11th, 1913. They had no furniture when they arrived and could not speak a word of English.
