About Emilio Barbieri
Born in Mezzana, part of the municipality of San Giuliano Terme, a few steps from Pisa, Emilio Barbieri made his debut in 1875 in Ernani at the Arena Federighi, where now stands the Stadio Arena Garibaldi - Romeo Anconetani of Pisa. He performed often in city theaters, but also enjoyed some success in the national arena, performing on the important stages of Genoa, Turin, Parma and Bologna.
Married to the Russian soprano Nadezhda Engalycheva, known in France and in Italy under the name of Elvira Angeli, he is the father of another famous baritone, Amleto Barbieri .
