About Emily Phelps Dustin
Obituary for Emily Merrill Dustin, Published in Deseret Evening News January 16, 1890, DUSTIN- December 29, 1889, at Rexburg, of old age and general debility, Emily Merrill Dustin, daughter of Samuel and Phoebe Odlell Merrill, aged 85 years, 11 months and 3 days. "Aunt Emily" as she was familiarly spoken of by all, was born in Smithfield, Madison County, New York, on February 2nd, 1804. casting her lot with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in its early rise, she passed through many of its tribulations and privations and shared in common the hardships of pioneer life with many of her relatives and friends in the early colonizing of Utah.
During her illness of ten months, her intellect remained clear, and she calmly awaited the summons to that rest which awaits the faithful. She always lived an exemplary life, full of integrity for the cause of truth. In passing away she leaves a multitude of friends and has gone to join the hosts of departed who awaited her coming. She died in full hope of a glorious resurrection. A day or two before her departure she called all her relatives in the home where she resided to her bedside, and gave them her last dying injunctions, exhorting them to be faithful unto the end. Shaking hands with all, she bade them good bye and then lapsed into unconsciousness until death terminated her career.
