About Mary Melissa Lutz
Although Find A Grave.com shows that Mary was born in 1842, the 1850 census showed that she was 11 years old and living with her mother, step-father and siblings who were listed as follows in the census record: Bacchius Dustin, 46, Emily, 47, LaFayette Merrill, 15, Mary Merrill, 11, and Orrin Phelps Merrill Dustin, 8 years old. Also according to Find A Grave, Mary's mother, Emily Phelps Merrill Dustin, did not marry Bechias Dustin until 1852, although she is listed as living with him in the 1850 census.
Mary married Thomas Jefferson Lutz in Utah in about 1860 and they had the following eleven children:

The family was listed as follows in the 1870 U.S. Federal Census for Smithfield, Cache, Utah Territory: Thomas, 33, Mary M., 28, Emily, 9, Thomas Albert, 6, Mary Jane, 4, Lucy Ann, 2, and William Henry, one month old. Thomas was working as a farmer and his real estate was valued at $400 and his personal estate at $100.
By the 1880 U.S. Federal Census they were listed as follows: Thomas Lutz, 43, Mary Ann, 40, Thomas Albert, 17, Mary Jane, 15, Lucy Ann, 13, William Henry, 10, Adam, 6, and Effie, 3 years old. They were still living in Smithfield, Cache County, Utah. Thomas was working as a harness maker and was his son, Thomas Albert, although the census record showed that Thomas Albert was disabled since he had fallen from a horse. Thomas and both his parents were born in Pennsylvania, and Mary Ann and both her parents were born in New York. All of their children were born in Utah.
By 1900 Mary was a 57-year old widow, living on Main Street in Rexburg, Fremont County, Idaho, with her two youngest children, George Edin, 19, and Roselpha Eleanor, 17. According to this census record, Mary was born in July of 1842, George in October of 1880, and Roselpha in October of 1882. Mary had given birth to eleven children, eight of whom were still living. Under occupations, Mary's was not given, Geroge was working as a farm laborer and Roselpha as a compositor. They owned their own home free from a mortgage.
Mary passed away on June 2, 1917, in Rexburg, Idaho.
