Emma Elizabeth Oleson

Emma Elizabeth Ridout born 1 Nov. 1852 at Southampton, England. Commenced school age five years. Never had any schooling after eleven years old. She was baptized 1860 at Southampton by Henry Puzey and confirmed the same time by James Rogers.

"Left Southampton June 1864 for Utah. Arrived at St. Joseph, Missouri, U.S.A. in the midst of the Civil War. Had to wait for transportation. Finally a cattle car train back down from Omaha. Men used willow brooms to clean the cars. People piled hurried1y and moved to Omaha. Woods were afire on both sides of the track. Men kept wet sacks and blankets on top and sides of cars to protect them from the fire."
