About Emory Ailey Middleton
Served with the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II from November 1941 until October 21, 1945. He served with the 336th Fighter Group, European Theater of Operations (Britain). He was involved in the following battles and campaigns: Ardennes Rineland, Normandy Air Offensive Europe, Northern France, and Central Europe. ___ NAHUNTA ¬ Emory Ailey Middleton, 85, of Nahunta died Thursday (Dec. 23, 2004) in the Southeast Georgia Health System, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Wayne County, now Brantley, he graduated from Nahunta High School. He enlisted in the Army Air Force and served with the Eighth Air Force in England until 1946. He retired from Okefenoke Rural Electric with nearly 40 years of dedicated service.
He is preceded in death by his father, Claude Middleton, a sister, Mae Middleton Crum, of Mountain Home, Ark. and a brother, Donald Haney, of Yakima, Wash. Survivors include his wife, Effie Middleton, of Nahunta, one daughter, Carole Adkins, of Montgomery, Ala.; three sons, Bill Middleton and Mark Middleton, of Nahunta, and John Middleton, of Hoboken; his mother, Annie Phillips Riggins, of Nahunta; two sisters, Wilma Phillips, of Orlando, Fla. and Thelma Middleton, of Milledgeville; three brothers, Claude Middleton and Benny Middleton, of Waycross, and David Haney, of Nahunta; eight grandchildren, Kelly McBride, Andrea Bryant, Kailyn Middleton, Megan Middleton, Dustin Middleton, Dylan Middleton, Cody Middleton and Ryan Middleton; one great- grandchild, Kacie McDonald; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
