"An elderly Queens man who lived alone died yesterday of a beating he received during a robbery in his home Friday, the police said.

A police spokesman, Sgt. Norris Hollomon, said the victim, Helmut Mutli, 85 years old, was found early yesterday by his daughter, Vivian Defieux, lying on the bathroom floor of his home at 133-14 226th Street in Laurelton with his hands tied.

The victim was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in critical condition and died at 11 A.M., the hospital said.

The switchboard operator at the hospital would confirm Mr. Mutli's death but would not disclose the nature of his injuries. The police, reporting what they had been told by Mrs. Defieux, said Mr. Mutli had been beaten on the head and body. No weapon was found.

Mrs. Defieux, who lives in Bay Shore, L.I., said in a telephone interview that she had called her father, as she did regularly, between 11 P.M. and midnight Friday to see if he was all right.

When he did not answer, she said, she went to his home at 1 A.M.

Sergeant Hollomon said there were no witnesses to what he called a push in robbery.
