Enit Kaufman was a highly successful portrait painter in Vienna and Paris before emigrating to the U.S. She and her husband were befriended by American author Dorothy Canfield Fisher, who invited them to stay at her farm in Vermont, as she did other emigre couples.
Enit Kaufman was 41 in the 1940 U.S. Census for New York City, residing with her husband and father at 404 Riverside Drive. In 1935 she (they) had been living in Vienna, but Enit was not born there; the census says "born Czechoslovakia."
In 1945 Enit Kaufman painted a portrait of Harry Truman.
