About Enoch Buckingham

Birth: Nov. 13, 1763 New Castle County Delaware, USA Death: Feb. 23, 1845 Sycamore Hamilton County Ohio, USA

MARKER HAS BEEN REPAIRED SINCE PHOTO WAS TAKEN, per info from local Buckingham descendants.

Enoch J. Buckingham was the oldest child of William & Jane (Jones) Buckingham. Levi was born in New Castle County, Delaware. His parents had 13 children. They were, Enoch J, Levi, Catherine (Mundell), John, James, Isaac, Susannah (Sutton), Hannah (Bonnell), Esther (Betson), Lydia (Wise), William, Jesse & Jane (Kelly).

In the mid 1770s his parents moved the family to Washington County, Pennsylvania. It appears only 2 of the 13 children may have stayed in Pennsylvania until they died. They moved on to Ohio, Indiana & Illinois.

Enoch was a patriot and he served in the militia during the Revolution.

Enoch married Mary Jeffries who was from Virginia. The couple had 14 children. Some were born in Pennsylvania and others in Ohio. Their names were, Elizabeth, Matilda, Washington, William, Levi, Enoch, Jane, Levi, Enoch A. Maria, John, Horatio, Mark & Greenbrier.

In 1789 he came by river to Hamilton County, Ohio. The next year, 1790, Enoch and his brother Levi returned with their families and settled. The two brothers had many children.

For 5 years Enoch lived in Columbia. Then Enoch and his family moved into a cabin on the banks of the Little Miami, on the lower Buckingham farm, but he had lands in Clermont, in Miami Twp as had his brother, Levi. The brother were founders of the Buckingham family of that name in Clermont and Hamilton counties.

Enoch built in Miamiville, the first flouring mill in 1810. He continued to live in the area until he died.

Today you will find Buckingham descendants are still living in the area.
