Research Issue: IN in 1838-1839? When John Ebert died in 1834, one can imagine that it was quite a blow to the family. John had been the pioneer from Virginia to Ohio 1810-1820. He had brought the Ebert family along, including his wife, Sarah Cliften. It appears that she preceded him in death but there is no record of this event. John's family appears to have adjusted to Ohio with the oldest child, John Jr., becoming a minister in the Baptist church and Sarah J. marrying into the established Pence family. Then, John Sr. died. Elizabeth Ann was only 11 and William H. 15 at the time. Rev. John was 29 and Enoch Eppard 23. What to do? With whom would/did the two youngest children reside? Then, in 1840, Enoch's wife, Elizabeth Jenkins, died leaving him with George T. (9) and Enoch Marion (3). Now, for creative interpretation that needs to be researched: 1) Enoch Eppard and Elizabeth move to Indiana in 1838 or 1839 with his young brother William H.; 2) William H. finds a bride soon after named Hannah and they have a child, Martha A., in 1839 in Indiana; 3) Elizabeth Jenkins dies soon after and Enoch soon finds Lucinda Loffitt to marry; and 4) This is the reason that a Pipe Creek Township historian could say that Dr. William H. Ebert was a pioneer to Pipe Creek, having arrived prior to 1840.
