David Field held many local offices in East Guildford (now Madison), Connecticut. On 1 June 1747, at the age of 49, he received a military commission from Jonathan Law, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of His Majesty's Colony of Connecticut. He served as an Ensign. He was a founding father of North Guilford (now North Madison), Connecticut. He married first to Anna Bishop on 13/15 January 1720. He married second to Catherine Bishop on 17 May 1731. He married third to Abigail Tyler on 10/20 February 1742.
