He served in the Lexington, Massachusetts Alarm. He was part of the Connecticut Continental militia during the Revolutionary War. He was a private in Captain Andrew Ward's Company and later served as a lieutenant in the 7th Regiment under Colonel William Worthington. He was a lieutenant in Captain Peter Vail's Company of Connecticut Coast Guards, which protected Long Island Sound. He achieved the rank of Captain. He was a farmer and held several local offices in Madison, Connecticut.
