Ens. Ephraim MIDDAGH was born before 31 May 1738 in Orange, NY, and was christened 31 May 1738 in Orange, NY. His parents first lived in the Rochester area of Ulster County. In about 1735 they moved to the Minisink area. Based on the date of the move of his parents, it has been assumed he was born and christened in the Minisink area. Ephraim is another who while baptized (according to church records) was accepted into the Machackemack DRC on confession of faith on 1/17/1767. Jacob Westvaal and Hermanus Van Nimwagen were witnesses..Ephraim died 22 Jul 1779 in Minisink, Orange, NY. He was killed in the "Battle of the Minisink". His actual place of death was the Minisink Battlegrounds - a hill overlooking the Delaware River near the mouth of the Lackawaxen about 27 miles from Minisink. The battle was an intense skirmish between the Colonists and Captain Brandt's "renegades/tories" and Indians who were supporting the British. There is a monument commemorating the battle at Goshen, NY. Ephraim's name is on the monument as one of those who died in the battle. According to Col. Hathorn's official report of the engagement to Gov. Clinton, the battle took place on the 23rd not the 22nd..

Ephraim became a member of the Machackemeck DRC on 1/17/1767. Ephraim signed the "Articles of Association" for the Minisink District in 1775. He is listed as an Ensign in "Genealogical Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files" (Pg. 2343) by Virgil D. White. The father/son relationship of Jacob and Ephraim is confirmed in Special Publication No. 35 "Genealogical Data from The New York Post Boy 1743-1773" compiled by Keneth Scott and published by the National Genealogical Society in 1970.

He married Annatje KROM. She was born before 17 Oct 1743, and was christened 17 Oct 1743. Annatje, baptism data obtained from Mr. Ray Krum in a letter dated 2/1/1995.
