Ensign John is the son of John Davis and Cicely Thayer. He married Jane Peasley/Peesley on 10 Dec 1648 in Colonial Mass., she being the daughter of Rev.Joseph Peasley and Mary Johnson. They settled for a time in Havenhill,Essex Co.,MA. before moving to Oyster River Plantation (Durham) where he built a garrison house near Davis Creek. He had large tracks of land and held the passion of Selectman-seven times,Constable, surveyor of land and several other positions.
They are parents of eleven Children,born in Haverhill or Oyster River.

Jane and John Davis were not killed in the Oyster River Massacre as that did not take place until 1694. Some of their children were victims however: Sarah, John Jr., daughter-in-law Elizabeth, grandsons James and Samuel.[9] Yet another son and grandson, Moses Davis and his son Moses, were killed in raids on 10 Jun 1724.

From Oyster River Massacre - Miner Descent
Most genealogies say Ensign John DAVIS (1621 – 1686) was killed at the Oyster River Massacre, he actually died a few years earlier, but the actual toll to his family is bad enough; daughter Sarah, son John Jr, daughter-in-law Elizabeth, grandson James and grandson Samuel all killed, two to four grandchildren carried off to Canada, one to live for fifty years as a French nun. Another son and grandson were killed by Indians in 1720 and 1724 ...
