Josiah was the son of Lt. Jeremiah Fuller (1658-1743) and Thankful Bird (1666-1729).
Josiah's grandfather was John Fuller (1611-1697), who arrived in America about 1635 aboard the "Abigail" and then settled at Cambridge Village (Newton), Middlesex Co., MA about 1644, marrying Elizabeth Cole (1620-1700; b. England) at about that same time. In 1658, he purchased one thousand acres northwest of Cambridge Village, which was thereafter called the "Fuller Farm".
Josiah married Abigail Williams in Newton, Mass., on 14 Jan 1738/1739. She was the 2nd daughter and 3rd child of Isaac Williams III and Martha Whitney (both of Newton, Mass.).
Josiah and Abigail had 11 children, all born in Newton:
