About Ephraim Butterfield

Emphraim Butterfield was a Captain in the French and Indian War

Ephraim was a farmer.
He was born April 1710 in Westford, Massachusetts, the son of Joseph Butterfield and Eunice Heald.
He married Elizabeth Davis 16 Mar 1732. He and wife Elizabeth and family lived at Westford, Mass. (1737), Litchfield, New Hampshire (1739), Dunstable, Mass. (1751), and Wilton (1769).
He was mentioned in his father's Will (1749), in which he was left all of his father's shop tools together with the shop.
Ephraim served in the Colonial French and Indian War and fought in the Battle of Lake George in 1758.
His death date is uncertain. He was living in Wilton, New Hampshire as late as 1776. A date of 7 June 1777 in Chelmsford has been assigned to him by many, but this is impossible. The Ephraim Butterfield who was buried 7 June 1777 in Chelmsford was, according to the death record, the son of Capt. John and Anna Butterfield. He was born, according to the same town records, 28 July 1741. So the Ephraim who died in 1777 is not the same Ephraim who married Elizabeth Davis in 1731.
