Biography
Ephraim Hayward, son of George and Hannah (Chadwick) Hayward, was born in Concord, Middlesex, Province of Massachusetts Bay on July 26, 1697.[1] He was a descendant of Mayflower passenger William White.[2]
He married Joanna Wheeler in Brookfield, Worcester County, on June 28, 1726.[3] Joanna, the daughter of Samuel and Joanna (Walcott) Wheeler, was born in Concord on August 13, 1708.[4] She was also a descendant of Mayflower passenger William White.[2]
They first lived in Brookfield, Massachusetts, where their first five children were born. About 1737, they removed to Western (now Warren), Massachusetts, where the last five children were born. On 19 April 1756, Ephraim Hayward of Western petitioned for wages due him.[5]
By 1770, they removed to Onslow, Nova Scotia where Ephraim Hayward's household was listed in that year's census and consisted of one man, one boy and one woman. Ephraim Hayward Jr. had one man, one woman and two girls enumerated.[6]
Ephraim died on September 16, 1770 in Onslow.[7]
On 30 November 1771, Ephraim Hayward (Jr.) of Onslow, Halifax County, yeoman, his wife Sarah, and Joanna Hayward, widow, sold their rights to 1500 acres in Onslow to Thomas Crow.[8]
Joanna lived with her son Ephraim and his wife Sarah probably until she died in 1772.[9] No probate records have been found for Ephraim or Joanna Hayward.[2]
