Erick was only 15 when his mother died. At the age of approx. 19, Erick went to Stockholm where he obtained some schooling and worked on the navigation system of the seaport.
While there, he heard of the LDS Church, attended their meetings, and was baptized in 1855. He was a home missionary and was appointed President of the Orebro Branch of the Swedish Mission.
In 1861, Erick, with his brother Pehr, and his sweetheart Anna, left Sweden. Erick and Anna were married on board ship the day they sailed.
Upon their arrival in Salt Lake City, they stayed only briefly before traveling to Tooele where they found work and a home. Later they moved south to settle in Vernon, where they build a log house and farmed.
